Wetas with Backpacks
I have been reading a story called "Wetas with Backpacks". I am going to tell you what the Article is about. There is a lady called Mary who puts backpacks on the wetas. The backpacks are little radios inside them and it makes a signal with a beeping sound. When Mary puts the backpacks on she tests the backpack makes a noise to help her find the wetas. Mary checks to make sure the wetas are okay. The wetas are gigantic and big and we are lucky that we have them in New Zealand because they are really special to New Zealand. So we should treat them nice and help them because of the mice and rats are eating them.

What an interesting story! I've never heard of a weta before. From the picture it looks a bit like our grasshoppers... but a lot bigger and much more scary! In England, we hear grasshoppers in the summertime, and sometimes if you're lucky you can spot one and even catch one, but they are not so very common. Is the Weta a common insect? Where would you spot it and does it make a noise?

ReplyDeleteI never new so much cool stuf about wetas.
chloe.
A weta is old as dinosaurs and unique to New Zealand. The giant Weta is the heaviest insect in world. They appearance looks dangerous but they are totally harmless. They have survive in New Zealand because they had no nature enemies maybe the odd bird. Europeans brought rats and mice by mistake to New Zealand which have culled the Weta population and now they are endangered. A true treasure of New zealand. Many Weta now live on rat free islands for there own protection.
