Popcorn Maths

For Maths we started our Measurement unit. Our learning was to understand what is a non-standard measurement volume unit.We had to record the volume of popcorn that each pair were given with either teaspoon, wooden spoon and tea strainer and anything else you could think of. All these items are non standard measuring units.

Then we found out the the volume of the popcorn was only 80 milliliters by using a standard measuring cup that you would find in a kitchen. Mr Thurlow gathered in all the popcorn kernals. Then we had to guess how much popcorn would be made after cooking all the kernels in a popcorn maker. Sophie was the closes with her prediction of 14 cups but it actually made 21 cups of popcorn!!!!. We were allowed to eat all of the popcorn.

  1. Hi Room 2!
We think this is a great idea for learning about volume and measurement! And it helps that we all love popcorn! Learning zone 6 is keen to give this a try too!
    Have a great week!
