Tuning In Activity- I am Loyal

As a partof our Inquiry for term 1,"I am Loyal" a Kiwiana unit. Students in their co-operative groups went searching for questions around Burnham School. Each group had to locate 20 questions relating to kiwiana. The trick was that each member had to hold the piece of string or else a teacher would cut the group's string. Each cut of the string meant a loss in points.

The King Lost His Crown( Technology Activity)

The junior school were given a brief that the king has lost his crown. Each child had to design a new crown fit for a king!!!

The only materials that the students were allow was newspaper, coloured paper, masking tape and glue.   Added to the brief was that the students had to work with one or two other students. This created its own unusual problem that the group had to choose, which crown design to create or how to incorporate  both designs in one crown.

The teachers were really proud in how the students co-operated in creating their crowns.

Whole Co-operative Activity- Stepping Back in the Past

Yesterday we worked in different groups to answer questions about the olden days. Each group had a piece of string that each individual of the group had to hold, as we located questions around the school. If it was dropped by any members the teachers cut the string. The group with the longest string and the most correct answers won.

 We worked together co-operatively by listening to each other,stinking together , helping one another and taking turns to complete the questions.

 We enjoyed the activity and would love to do it again!!
