How Meteors Are Formed

Meteors begin in small chunks of rock and dust, they are called Meteoroids. These fragments are sometimes found in the long tail of a comet. As the comet goes by the Sun,the warmth from the Sun melts the comet.Chunks of rock shatter and they are left in space. These rocks are called Meteoroids.

These left over chunks of rocks float in space. As the Earth spins around the Sun,it passes through paths of Meteoroids. Some of the Meteoroids are pulled towards Earth because of Earth's gravity. As the Meteoroids enter Earths atmosphere they are called ''Meteors''.As meteors begin to pass through Earth's atmosphere they became hot and glow. Some meteors can be mistaken for the shooting stars. Shooting Stars are actually Meteors.
