The Totara tree is the tallest tree in NZ but it has been chopped down by a maori person Rata. Rata had a poor family so he thought that he would go to the forest of Tane and find a tree that was strong to make a waka that could carry many men and fish. If you ever come by a forest of Tane make sure that you ask God of the forest for permission.
